Terms of Service
The rules of the road. We kept them readable on purpose — but they're still the actual terms, and using PassFail.wtf means you agree to them.
Last updated: July 10, 2026
PassFail.wtf (“PassFail,” “we,” “us”) is a community-driven platform that grades websites and services on their password and authentication policies. By accessing or using the site, submitting a grade, leaving a comment, or subscribing to our newsletter, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
1. Grades are opinions
Every grade on PassFail.wtf is an opinion— a community assessment of a site's password and authentication practices against our published rubric and NIST SP 800-63B guidance. Grades are submitted by contributors based on evidence available at a point in time. They are not statements of fact, legal conclusions, or professional security audits, and password policies change. A grade reflects what a tester observed on the date recorded, nothing more.
Do not treat a grade as a guarantee that a site is secure (or insecure). Always exercise your own judgment before trusting any service with your credentials.
2. User-generated content
PassFail is powered by contributors. When you submit a grade, evidence (screenshots), tester notes, or comments (collectively, “Content”), you represent that:
- →You have the right to submit it and it does not infringe anyone’s rights.
- →It is accurate to the best of your knowledge and based on your own testing or observation.
- →It does not contain unlawful, defamatory, harassing, or deceptive material.
- →Screenshots do not expose your own or anyone else’s real credentials or private data.
You retain ownership of your Content. By submitting it, you grant PassFail a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, reproduce, and distribute that Content on the platform and in related materials (for example, social posts sharing a grade). We may edit, moderate, or remove Content that violates these terms or our rubric standards.
3. Accounts & sign-in
You sign in with GitHub OAuth, handled through Supabase Auth. You're responsible for activity under your account. Don't impersonate others, create accounts to evade moderation, or use automation to manipulate votes, karma, or grades. We may suspend or terminate accounts that abuse the platform. See our Privacy Policy for what we store from your GitHub sign-in.
4. Acceptable use
Don't use PassFail to:
- ×Post false grades, fabricated evidence, or content you know to be inaccurate.
- ×Harass, threaten, or defame companies, employees, or other contributors.
- ×Scrape, overload, or attempt to disrupt the service.
- ×Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any account, system, or data.
- ×Submit content that violates intellectual property or privacy rights.
5. Takedowns & DMCA
If you're a rights holder and believe content on PassFail infringes your copyright, or if you're a company that believes a grade or comment is inaccurate, defamatory, or exposes private information, you can request review or removal. Email abuse@passfail.wtf with the URL, a description of the content, and the basis for your request. For copyright claims, include the information required by the DMCA (17 U.S.C. § 512): identification of the work, your contact details, a good-faith statement, and your signature. We review reports and remove or annotate content where warranted. See the Contact & Moderation page for the full process.
6. Disclaimers
PassFail is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any grade, and we're not liable for decisions you make based on the site. Grades are community opinion, not security advice. Mentions of companies and products are for identification and commentary; trademarks belong to their respective owners, and PassFail is not affiliated with or endorsed by the sites it grades.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, PassFail and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site or reliance on any Content. The platform is a free community resource.
8. Termination
You can stop using PassFail at any time. We may suspend or terminate access — and remove Content — for anyone who violates these terms, abuses the platform, or where required by law. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability) will survive.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the platform evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the revised terms.
